Counted Worthy to Read the Word

What a tremendous blessing it is to have the living word of the living God in my hands. Yet who am I but a bucket of dust before him? Failing and falling each moment? Yet still not a single promise from that blessed Word will ever be blotted out.

How is it that I who do not have clean hands can grasp the Bible? How is it that I who do not have clean eyes can lay my eyes upon it? Oh, I find myself the most worthy of judgments to have my hands melt and my eyes burn even in the slightest glimpse of His holy Word. And yet I am found worthy to hold it, to read it, to meditate upon it, to love it. What is it? Grace. Grace in Christ Jesus.

What a tremendous blessing indeed JM! I have access to the Word of God – anytime and anywhere – and yet I still fail to study it with all my heart, mind and soul. And the fact that we are even counted worthy to read the word of God by grace is such an amazing, wonderful privilege! What a gracious God!

    Great post!

Oh, yes Mike. It’s a great rebuke isn’t it? Especially for me, ‘coz I still find myself caught in moments where I think that reading the Word is such a chore instead of desiring it as more precious and more satisfying than our daily food! Not to mention my neglect altogether for it at times!

It is so sad and frustrating to observe these inconsistencies in ourselves, but yes, what a gracious God we indeed have! We still have our Bibles! He has graciously given us a day more to love it and feed upon it. Oh that we may know Him, yet we do not deserve to know Him. Still His revelation of Himself is open ever more before us.

Let us labor much to be faithful stewards of His blessed Word!
